Makin night, bunting

Friday night... date night. Just me and my sewing machine.
There was itching going on all day.
Every time i walked past my fabric stash i found something i wanted to use.
Knowing something was going to be made i got all my chores done before the kids hopped into bed.

I have been wanting to make bunting since the littlest's ones 1st birthday party.
I bought the material before hand wanting to get it done in time but there was no time.
I have to declare that i LOVE my rotary cutter. It was the first time using it. It was all too easy.

A little cheesecake break makes making all the better.
It took me around 4 hours but i managed to finish it all before going to bed.

I am very pleased with the end result. I ran out of bias tape so i still have 8 flags left to hang

And now for my next trick..... making a cot quilt from the scraps

Somebody save me

I have just spent the last 2 hours lost over at whip up.
My eyes are red and sore and i don't think i can find a thing with all these pages
up of things i want to make.
So i am just going to leave the link here for me to use when i have a spare few months.
And a picture to keep my crafty side drooling

This weekends to do list

Or wish list?
Lets just see how it goes
  1. Make a bread bag
  2. And 2 Aboriginal print kindy bags for the girls
  3. Look into making tea towels (i dont think i have the material)
  4. More vegies in the vegie garden
  5. Picnic and play at the park
Looks fairly simple, but add that to running around after 5 kids and keeping the house clean so i can get these done isnt as easy as it may seem.
Oh i should add another
6. try and take a nice photo of all this with my old 3megapixel camera. Fun!

Well all i managed to do was find material for the bread bag, cut it out and embroider the word bread on the wrong! side of it. The left over material can be used for tea towels too.
I had a good look at the vegie garden
Sigh

Preserved Relish

Boxes bought from the local fruit market for $3 a box.
Made into roasted capsicum, tomato and zucchini relish and preserved.

Doesn't look like much.
I got 17 large jars filled as well as plenty of food for the chooks and worms.
Will be used for nachos, spaghetti and what ever other tomato based meals i come up with.
Wondering how many days it is going to take me to get the smell of
onion and curry out of my house.
I priced this at around $20 to make and the jars around $5 each.
Thats $85 dollars worth. I'm happy with that!

Pottery and thrifting

I am in love with this bowl. As soon as something is brought home from the thrift store it has to be used. Let me just say it will never be used in this way again. All of the shots i took have Ellie with her concentration tongue sticking out.

Gifts

Ok, so it has taken me around 5 hours to come up with something interesting
to make for my first installment of Christmas gifts.
I am going to be using these hoops and appliqueing.
Wall hoops?

That's the best I have, but the picture in my mind is something very sweet. And they were picked up at the thrift store for only $2 each :-)
There will be pictures!
The apple butter is divine!
Home made bread will be ready by the time the kids get home from school.
Ellie saved all the little apples from the chopping board.

Morning Glory.........

Is morning laundry.
Thrifted table cloths that were soaked overnight now on the line this morning.
I bought them to recycle into bags.
How dare i have such thoughts!
They are both too precious to be cut up.

Anyone know what to do with this stain?
It has been soaking with the table cloths overnight in OxyAction.
And last but not least..... breakfast while nursing bubs in her sling :-)

Baby sling for my baby

She has been wanting one for a while. Mum has been promising one for a while too.
I finally pushed my work aside today and sat down with her, both of us scratching our heads while we tried to figure out the best way to go about it.
Ellie is a very good mummies helper, from material choosing to pin putting away.
The sewing session ended with her being too amused by You Tube (this one is my fav)
and my sewing machine needle breaking and i tell you, that as well as the bobbin needing filling is enough for me to say "that's it for today"
It will do as is for today. She is very pleased with it.
Notice the doiley? You will be seeing them everywhere.

The latest craze

I have been overcome with the need to make bags. It has worked out quite well, with the exception of my first bag. I was a little generous with sizing although it was meant to be for our art folders (even though they were half the size) I will attempt to unstitch it tonight.
Anywho, i have now given into having to measure and go slow which has paid off.
And our thrifting efforts today means more bags with little doiley flowers on the pockets once Ellie has finished using them as pie covers in her little kitchen.
For the next two bags i am going to be using aboriginal art teatowels so the 2 little ones can use them as kindy bags. Cant wait to get it started!

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to all. Hope you have all had family around you. We spent this morning dividing Easter eggs between 5 children then trying to get them not to eat them all at once.
I am soldiering on with my first scarf for my little Ellie's plane trip to Canberra. It isn't the most wonderful thing but i have great plans for it once the knitting part is done.
Our homemade Hot Cross Buns are on the rise and once the two year old wakes up for her nap we will venture off to the Botanical Gardens and hopefully get in some Easter egg hunting before the rain starts coming down.
