At 41 weeks, Sunday, and while your brother, sisters and Daddy were painting my belly,
I felt some strong contractions.
Mama just thought you were trying to make room again
so i went about as usual, wishing you would come out soon.
After putting the kids to bed and sitting down to watch television
I noticed the pains getting stronger.
We were both so excited, not really too sure if this was it.
The next few hours saw me on the fit ball bouncing
in between contractions which were 10 mins apart.
Your Grandmother and Aunt arrived to look after the sleeping ones
and around 11.30pm I decided that the pain was getting a bit unbearable
and it was time to head off to the hospital.
We listened to Angus and Julia Stone on the way, driving for half an hour,
finding parking and walking up to the Delivery Suite.
After an examination the midwife told us that i was 2 centimeters dilated,
which was a bit of a shock to me as i had read in many places the more you have
the faster they come (I was hoping for a quick delivery)
We spent the 6 hours timing contraction which were ranging from 1 minute apart to half an hour apart.
They sent me home...

Monday was a bit of a blur, I did manage to get half an hour of sleep in the morning.
I remember the contractions being quite unbearable, Mama in tears a lot of the time.
A dear friend stayed with me until around 3pm which was a great distraction.
Your Daddy slept!
My show appeared at 1pm which was such a wonderful sight.
Finally another step closer to your arrival.
By late afternoon the pain of the contractions saw me on the phone
to the hospital again with them to tell me that i should be coming in
when the contractions become regular.
That's when the vomiting began, after every contraction.
The rest of my home stay makes me think i never want to do this again
so lets just skip the tears and ranting and wanting to give up.
8pm Monday night: Mama was kneeling over a lounge making such a monstrous noise
through contractions trying to convince your Daddy it was time to go to the hospital.
Thankfully my wonderful sister in law helped to convince him over the phone.
We were off again, The Stones reassuring me in between contractions.
This time parking and walking was just not on the cards so we stopped right out the front of the building,
walking a short way, contractions after every other step, your Mama hanging off your Daddies shoulders.
We made it into the observation area, examination telling us that i was 6 centimeters dilated.
They sent us straight to the delivery suite.... I can still feel the relief now.
As soon as i stepped into that room, the tears and worry were washed away.
Even the pain was not as unbearable.
It gave me such comfort to know that this was were you were going to make your entrance,
this was where i was going to be looked after...... and this was where i could have pain relief!
After showering, Daddy parking the car, calling my sister in law to come and join us
and taking hold of that gas machine we decided to set up camp on a big mat on the floor.
I knew i never wanted to give birth on my back,
but with previous labours that's where i always ended up.
I was still determined to give it a go.
We had a trainee doctor that accompanied us on our journey,
Mama needed the gas as he attempted to insert one of the largest and longest cannula that has ever been seen.
He failed.... and I wasn't going to let him attempt a second time.
Another doctor came and attempted 3 times before succeeding. Ouch!
With Daddy sitting on a chair and Mama on her knees in front of him,
cuddling him through contractions, waters were broken on their own
(that's a first mama is very proud of)
Just after midnight, Tuesday:
It didn't take long for you to make your entrance,
Mama still on her knees with Daddy in front of her.
I feel in love straight away. You looked so handsome and sweet....angelic.
Daddy cut your cord and you were put on my chest to feed straight away.

Everything was right in the world...... and Mama fell asleep.

We are so very happy to have you in our world little James.
Love Mummy and Daddy
