The good news... the headaches have stayed away.
Its been 4 days since i have been off my antibiotics and it looks pretty good.
The bad news... Ellie was helping Ryan Sr in the chook pen.
"my feet are itchy mum" couldn't see anything.
"my head is itchy mum.... its REALLLLY itchy!" nothing to be found.
I got into the pen to help out. We have bird lice, and not just a few.
I have dusted and thrown lime powder around.
I have picked the top layer off the ground, bagged and binned it.
I have cleaned out the roosts.
3 days later.... we still have bird lice.
Oh the welts that they have left on my body.
From one thing to the next hey?
Anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of these pests?
We no longer have a back yard to play in.

Oh, dear-cortizone cream may soothe your skin, but I have no idea how to get rid of them.
Glad you've gotten rid of your headaches, though!☺
Thanks Holly!

are you sure it wasnt some disease ryan gave you guys?
Cheeky girl. Have you stopped lighting fires yet young woman???
Oh my! Are bird lice like other kinds of lice? I'm not sure of the answer to this one. I hope everything runs smoothly for you soon. Sounds like you could use some smooth sailing.
Thanks Rosamund, they come from the pigeons that we have visiting out yard on a daily basis
Well all I can say is thank goodness all this is happening before the Wedding which should mean a smooth uneventful Wedding Day :-)
Have no idea how to treat bird lice, sounds like you need to get in the professionals :-(
If you have some Lavender Essential Oil, put about 6 drops in a tspn of milk then add it to bath water and it should promote the healing very quickly and soothe it all.
Best of luck and glad to hear those headaches didn't come back.
Janine
Thanks Janine, I came across Soov and that has worked a treat for the itching. As for the backyard.... I'm thinking a jerry can and a match might do the trick!
We have these regularly too (although ours are mites, not lice). Sulphur, the garden kind, works pretty well. You have to do it every couple of days for a while though, and as long as the wild birds keep coming back (which is hard to stop), it seems that you can't get rid of them permenantly.
Wash everything in the house, shower every time you visit the chook pen.
We clean out the whole chook pen, dust it with sulphur, and use lime on all the lawsn etc outside where they are.
It's very frustrating. Hope you get rid of them soon.
Oh no....and with such a fab new coop and all!! I can give you details of lots of natural remedies to try if you are interested....maybe if you email because there is quite a lot?
